An amazing day. Arrived and was allocate a pit garage - number 23 - a long way from the front guys some 150m away. The team, Graham Bell, Jamie Black, Paul Capsey and Frazer Clifford all got suited up, had a safety briefing and prepared for a long day ahead.
At 11:45 the race began with a Le Mans style start. Our team we second to last at the back of the starting grid and Graham Bell took the first three laps to get us on the road. Within the first lap he had managed to take us from being at the back to being in third place. Frazer Clifford made a swift change with Graham and powered off up the slipway and onto the track. Graham and Frazer maintained a strong position for the majority of the morning - cementing our podium position and ensuring there was sufficient distance between us and the rest of the field.
The rest of the day was put to strategically managing our position behind the two fastest teams who were slowly but consistently pushing ahead, while keeping a close eye on the aggressively competetive team close behind us.
With the light fading at past 7:30pm the countdown to the end began with the commentator getting increasingly excited and the fast teams pushing harder and harder. with one last hard push Frazer took the last lap at a pace that made others look on aghast.
We finished in a very respectable third place, being beaten by two teams from the Rugby Football Union.
Next years' first place is now very much in our sights!
